From 7th Heaven to Taper Hall (March 2004, SNMAG.COM)
Teen celebrity David Gallagher has lived seven of his 18 years on the set of the WB drama 7th Heaven. He's now moving on to the next stage of his life, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Cinema-Television Critical Studies here at USC and in the future, hopes to direct. Gallagher has been in the public eye since the age of 2, modeling, working in commercials and on Broadway until his run on the WB. His high school experience, he recalls, was made difficult by the demanding TV filming schedule. Currently, David views studying as his full-time occupation. "It's been a lot more simple because I'm not juggling [studying and acting]," he said. Around campus, Gallagher is still settling into the dorm life. "It's weird moving from a dependence on your family to a dependence on your peers," he said. He likes the laid-back community in his residence hall, but he doesn't especially like staying in one place for too long. "After three days of being here straight, the walls close in," he says. Catching a show at Ground Zero Coffeehouse, a game of Ultimate Frisbee or a round of guitar, Gallagher likes to relax in between his classes and off campus commitments. "All of my life is really outside of campus," he said, describing how he has to work with his family and friends to organize transportation to work and play away from USC. David likes to consider himself a typical college student, having made midnight runs to In-N-Out in between essays and teacher conferences. Summer vacation means hiatus projects for television actors, and Gallagher says the semester will get harder as he turns his attention to possible film shoots. By Greg Damiano. |
